The purpose of the Prevention Resource Center (PRC) Region 7 is to enhance and support local and statewide Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention and behavioral health education efforts.

The PRC is required to provide the following services and resources to Region 7:

  • Referrals & Training – The PRC 7 maintains a list of prevention providers and training resources in Region 7 for individuals needing such information.  PRC staff also conducts training and makes referrals for appropriate services.
  • Data Collection –  Identification, collection, and sharing of local community data,facilitation of a Regional Needs Assessment, encouragement of school participation in data collection surveys.
  • Coordination & Networking – PRC 7 networks/collaborates with more than 100 groups to provide services related to prevention, including education service centers, school districts, colleges and universities, community task forces and coalitions.  Services can also include assisting in the coordination of conferences and workshops.
  • Tobacco Compliance Checks – The PRC is required to visit 125 tobacco retailers within Region 7 every month to insure they are in compliance with State Comptrollers rules and regulations for tobacco sales.  Compliance information is collected by PRC staff and submitted monthly with DSHS measures.

The PRC serves a 30-county region (Health and Human Services Region 7), which consist of the following counties: Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Bosque, Brazos,  Burleson,  Burnet,  Caldwell,  Coryell,  Falls,  Fayette,  Freestone,  Grimes,  Hamilton,  Hays,  Hill, Lampasas,  Lee,  Leon,  Limestone,  Llano,  Madison,  McLennan,  Milam,  Mills,  Robertson,  San Saba,  Travis,  Washington, and  Williamson.  Schools, agencies, businesses, churches and other community groups within PRC Region 7 contact the PRC to request presentations, educational information, or for staff to attend their community events.
