"BVCASA affected me by allowing me to stay clean.  They have helped me be more open minded with my family.  They also helped me by giving me understanding on addiction and showing me that anybody can stay clean."

Outcome (Result):  15 year old male patient has achieved incriments of sobriety, become engaged in the local 12-step group, and continues to participate in treatment.  This client is crime-free, attending school, and setting goals.

"In October 2005, I walked into BVCASA because I had a drug problem.  Amy has taught me a lot.  She has helped me through some relapses and today I have a better perspective on life.  I love my life now.  I have been clean for 6 months and this time I want to stay clean.  I have been nicer to my family since I've been clean.  I'm on the third step right now.  My sponsor is cool and has helped me get this far.  They told me to try it for a year and see how it goes.  If I fall down, I know where to go when I get up.  My girlfriend and I have some problems but we are working them out.  I'm going to try to be nicer to my little brother.  He looks up to me a lot.  My dad and I get along, not just all the time like me and mom do.  But my life is getting better.  If you stay clean, your life will get better too.  Trust me from my experience.  There might be some bumps in the road but if you stay clean, you'll get through them.  I'm 16 years old and if I can get through this, you can too."

Outcome (Result):  The patient is a 16 year old male that struggled with relapse when he entered treatment but is now a success with his sobriety and involvement with the 12 steps.  His self esteem has improved and he is a leader of the aftercare groups.

"The fun never stopped..."

"Being involved in the leadership program helped me understand what I could do to help out in my community.  It also changed my views on volunteering my time to help others.  Now I believe I really can makea difference in someones life.  I love going through town and running into the kids from camp.  We have this long conversation about how much fun we are going to have next year at camp.   Volunteering to help young children is something I hope I will be able to do even after I graduate from high school. I am so happy BVCASA gave me the opportunity to participate in their leadership program. I will never forget how much fun and how much I learned at Camp KANDU."

"Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with and had to have surgery for endometriosis.  M y use of pain medicines began to increase about two months later because I started having migraine headaches.   At first my doctor prescribed Lortabs and Vicodin, but it was only a matter of time before I needed something stronger and  progressed to using Stadol, Equgesic and Xanax.  I took Stadol and Vicodin on a regular basis from the age of 29 until I was 37.  I started with only .5mg of Vicodin. By the end of my addiction I was taken 100mg of Valium and 100-120mg of Rotab a day.  I was also drinking alcohol with all those pain killers.  My brothers and sister never had problems with drugs, but my sister had gotten help from Al-anon after being married to an alcoholic, so she knew a little about addiction.  She finally confronted me about my addiction.  That was on a Sunday.  As soon as we returned, I called BVCASA.  Now I'm so glad I did.  I was in their outpatient treatment program for about a year.  At first, I went through their 5 week program, then the 26 week program.  During this process, I gradually weaned myself off of the medication with the help of the BVCASA staff.  The people in those rooms accepted me and loved me.  I started going to meetings everyday.  It became my lifeline.  As of  April 2005,  I've been clean and sober for 4 years.  This is the best accomplishment of my life.  Thanks to N.A., A.A., BVCASA, and my family, I was able to change."

"I started smoking marijuana at age 13 and was smoking on an average of once a week. I was arrested at age 14 for possession of marijuana at school. I was arrested again at age 15 for the same thing. I began attending the adolescent outpatient program after my second arrest. I completed seven weeks of intensive treatment and thirty-two weeks of aftercare services. I have been sober now since January 24, 2005. I never thought I would have been sober this long. I came and did what they told me to do, stayed clean, worked my program, and went to group. Working my program means I go to NA and talk to my sponsor. My family relationships have improved, I got a girlfriend, my grades at school have gone up, and I am getting off probation successfully. I am grateful for my probation officer for sending me to treatment, and for BVCASA and NA."
