Alcohol / Substance Abuse Screenings
To be eligible for admission to a treatment program, an individual must meet the criteria for substance abuse or dependence. The first step to determining the degree of substance use, abuse, or dependency is a screening, which consists of a one-on-one session with a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, or equivalent licensed counselor.
BVCASA uses a screening process standardized by the Texas Department of State Health Services, which is appropriate for the target population, individual’s age, developmental level, culture and gender. Once the individual’s level of need is determined, the licensed counselor will make an appropriate referral. The screening process also includes the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) criteria to determine eligibility for admission or referral including an assessment of the client’s financial resources and insurance benefits.
Because BVCASA is a non-profit, partially funded by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) grant funds, individuals without insurance or Medicaid may be eligible to have their treatment paid with DSHS funds.
